To ensure you are always prepared, we have made a list of our favourite products. You can make these as natural solutions or look for your preferred brands. Whatever you choose, they’re a great way to keep your carpets clean and free on stains.
Carpet Powders to Absorb Odours and Light Stains
We recommend having your favourite carpet powder or baking soda ready for a quick and easy carpet cleaning solution. Simply sprinkle the powder liberally across the area you want to be cleaned, leave for 30 minutes to let the powder soften stains and absorb odours, and then vacuum up the powder when you’re done.
Carpet Cleaners for Heavy Duty Stain Removal
You should always keep an all purpose carpet cleaning solution on hand. If you prefer DIY natural solutions, here are a few handy items to keep in the cupboard.
White Vinegar – Combine white vinegar and water in a spray bottle using a 1:1 ratio. Spray the solution on the stained area; leave it to sit for 10-15 minutes, and then, using a clean sponge, press the area to absorb the stain and solution. Repeat several times if required.
Dishwashing Liquid against Grease – If your carpet has greasy spots, water alone is not going to cut it. In a spray bottle, mix dishwashing liquid with water. Spray the solution onto the stain and blot it up with a cloth.
Hydrogen Peroxide for Blood Stains – Unexpected bloody noses or paper cuts can be a nightmare to clean from carpet! Try applying hydrogen peroxide directly to the area, let it soak in for a few minutes and then, using a cloth damp with water, dab the area to absorb the stain.
Air Fresheners for Beautiful Smelling Carpet and Home
There is nothing nicer than walking into a clean house with that freshly cleaned scent. Keep your house smelling fresh and clean by always leaving an air freshener around the house. You can opt for your favourite brand or you can easily make this yourself using the baking soda you already have on hand. Simply put 1/2 cup of baking soda into a jar, add 8-12 drops of your favourite essential oil and leave the jar open. Baking soda absorbs odours and the essential oils will leave your house smelling clean and fresh with your own signature scent.
